I just want to genuinely thank everyone for participating.

It's been amazing seeing people's interpretatons from a community I've been part of for many years now. Wether you've played the game or just felt like making something, thank you! Seeing these entries pop up was always the highlight of my day.

Congratulations to the winners!

Very happy with how this turned out. I tend to drone on a bit, but hopefully it'll contribute in some way.

Nice name detail by the way, Gecimen.

Since this happens to be posted here. Figure I'd mention the source code for Savant Ascent is available in this one as well. In case you want some insight into how the artwork I produced was put to use and whatnot.

That's strange. It looks like the PNG has some color artifacts in it. It's definitely not intended to have this many duplicate colors. Thank you for pointing that out. I'll get an edit up when possible.

Thanks guys! Didn't realise both pieces were submitted the same month. Feel like I'm hogging space here.

Still, really appreciate the vote of confidence. Hoping to post more stuff. Been building up a bit of a backlog.

I'm sitting here working on Owlboy as I type this, so not at all.

While I'm sure I'll hate the designs later, the idea for Nina came from BOF2's black wings. I figured if the winged people become rare, she would be regarded as devine, and would grow up as an aloof, sheltered monarch. Ruy would be one of her castle's prisoners, and would originally be from the plains. (I liked that feeling about Ruy's design from BOF4)

I would love to animate this, though I'm afraid I would be too tempted to keep working on the game if I did.

Capcom picked the BOF name because it would bring free publicity. I'm just not a big fan of this kind of tactic. I feel like the hard work of the series deserved more.

Actually, the idea was to use Gongs and Goos since they are the most reoccuring enemies in BOF. The thing is, I wanted something that fit with the walled off sewer theme (a water mine fit that and I already had an idea for a design) but you want to add something new to trigger the imagination a little bit. If I just went for old enemies, it would just be me mimmicking the series, not so much what could be.

Granted. In retrospect I'd probably redesign the Rattler enemy.

I'm sitting here making art assets for Owlboy right now, and have been for years. It's on it's way, just hang in there.

I didn't catch this at ALL! Thank you so much guys.

I'll be sure to upload some of the sprites so you can get a look at the work that went into it's production.

PCFox: I checked the link, and I can assure you I am not this person's "best friend". These sprites were made for the challenge on this site by me alone and were not donated to anyone. I'd say this was obvious, but I can understand that you'd want to make sure. You have to expect this to happen every once in a while I suppose.

The picture was made the way it was because my PC broke down at the time. As for using msPaint, I just enjoy using it despite having access to Photoshop CS3 and whatnot. It works for me. I've never insiunated that anyone should be impressed by this picture and quite frankly, I'm surprised how people read so much into what I basically made as a christmas gift, but if it inspires people to create more art, then I'm certainly happy about that.

For now though, I'm busy making something better.

Just thought I'd mention that this thing is now featured in an article in the September issue of Official Playstation Magazine UK. The issue was released in August, but you might still be able to snag a copy if you're lucky.

So thank you for the comments people. You guys made it happen. To be honest, I'm sure there are pixel pieces a lot more worthy of an article than this one, but I'm very grateful people appretiate what I do. So, thanks again.

The Bratz games are examples of games made by women for... well, girls in this case. I attended the talk they had about it. It's spesifically made with girls and female-strong locations in mind (shoppingmalls etc.) and women were more or less in charge of that one. ( I can only speak for that spesific ps2 game though)

I have no problem with women in the industy, what I'm thinking of is the method this is done. I feel the female integration is something that should happen 'naturally'. Once you have the work (in this case, casual games), the people with the right competance will fill that spot. If that happens to be women that's great. If women seem to enjoy this kind of game (as stated), they will most likely apply to those positions. However, having a different set of genitals does not give you any expertise on a particular subject of gameproduction apart from knowing what it's like to be a woman (or male, respectively).  This is important in this case because the money you get is not for your competance in female psycology, but simply for getting a degree. A degree you can use for any branch in the industy, making your gender irrelevant. This argument naturally goes both ways. All men can't do 'hardcore' games and you shouldn't get extra pay for being male.

Of course... getting women into the industy won't go 'naturally' without some promotion, so I stand by my fist statement: It's the method that bugs me.

Snake @ 4/3/2008 11:48 commented on Spaceranger
So I reckon hermaphrodites only get $ 5000?

Gender spesific deals bug me. If they're making casual games, then hire the best people for casual games. It's like saying all women are predisposed for the casual market...
