on the left side:
the dithering on the ships is unnecessary
the aa on that little blue ring is nice. but much more aa would be nicer (on the blue line, edges of the ships, just don't go overboard on aa).
It looks like maybe you tried to make the lazer glow show up on the ship? it should be much more dramatic if it's the only significant light source near by.

on the right side:
shouldn't those red electric things be the light source here? If so, shade the ships accordingly.
again, dithering isn't helping.
