So I've been a long time visitor of Pixel Joint site and recently I was inspired to start on a project/experiment.

I'm still rather fledgling with the art of the pixel and I'm hoping to learn and pick up some pointers from any experts or individuals willing to to share their advice!

My first character is somewhere between a knight and fighter and is pretty generic. Thematically I'm leaning towards warmer colors for him but the overall palette of the game would be on the less saturated spectrum with 'shocks of color' to call out important things (blood, gold, light, etc.)

Any advice or thoughts to make him really pop would be much appreciated. I think his value range right now is still pretty rough.

I'm really digging those side poses, although the shield's a bit off-center. I feel the face could use a bit more love. I think the boots meld a bit too much with the pants, have you thought of giving them slightly different colors? I'm not a fan of the shoulders being assymetrical. Why are there some stray pixels on the sword? Your color ramps could stand to be a bit more interesting, in particular your gray is very monochrome and bland.

You got any accompanying artwork for context?

Hi PixelSnader

Thanks for looking it over and providing the comments. I made some tweaks based on your feedback.

What did you have in mind for 'accompanying artwork'? Environments?

Environments, backgrounds, a game mockup. To see how well the sprite reads when it's in its eventual place, whether there's enough contrast, do some of the colors fade into the background too much, and so on. It's a shame to spend a bajillion hours on a sprite, only to find out it doesn't work well with the backgrounds of the game.

I agree, placing the sprite in its environment should help the sprite if nothing else.
