Hello Everyone,I am trying to get better at pixel art and for
that purpose I am trying to join all sorts of challenges and just work at it on a daily basis. I would like to post here the results (on a weekly basis) and hopefully obtain some constructive criticism from whoever would like to help. 1.http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/119743.htm ![]() 2.http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/119760.htm ![]() 3.http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/119778.htm ![]() Thank you,Iancu |

Hi Iancul, welcome :). That's a cool challenge for yourself!
I have two tips for this thread: Post the images here too, not just the links Consider posting images here before you submit them to the gallery and mark them as "finished", it is more interested for us to comment and critique if we know you're still interested in fixing and updating the work, than if you are only going to use this feedback on new works. As for these three works, I'll give some quick thoughts on each: 1. (nintendo DS) Black n grey is boring. So is the front view angle. Where does the curved 'shading' on the screens come from? Maybe show a game on there instead! 2. (theatre) Very busy high contrast curtain distracts from the people on stage. Too many details on the clothes of person 1 and 2, simplification would make them easier to read. Person 3 (right) disappears a bit into the background, give him some bright clothes too? On the top of the curtain I see the shape of the lights. Lights could have been lower, as more of a spotlight for the performers. When the theatre light is in "performing" mode you should hardly be able to see the chairs, stairs, anything except for the stage. 3. (city) Dithering in the sky is unnecessary, gives the sky a grainy band. For this small icon, why not leave the sky one solid color? Lightning is very very contradictory. Sky suggests that the sun is just above the horizon. Clouds suggest that the sun is above/behind. Grey buildings suggest the sun is on the left. Red building suggests it is late evening and the lights are on in the building. Buildings in the background are dark, why? I can't make any sense out of it. Also all of the buildings are boring and rectangular. Look at some pictures of cities for reference! Good luck, I'm looking forward to the next ones :). Oh and here is some fun reading for you which I came across last week |

Hi Hapiel and thanks for taking the time to look over my work. Great advice all around! I will answer each of your points below.
Post the images here too, not just the links
Sure thing. Great idea - I have updated the original post. Consider posting images here before you submit them to the gallery and mark them as "finished", it is more interested for us to comment and critique if we know you're still interested in fixing and updating the work, than if you are only going to use this feedback on new works.
Ok, thanks for the great advice - I will start doing this from now on (thing is I posted everything up to this point straight to the gallery because as a new user you can't post anything on the forum until you have 10 points I think (anti-spam measure from what I gather). 1...Maybe show a game on there instead!
Yeah, thing is I wanted to impose some time limit on myself as well and it had already taken me about three hours to make it as it is so that's why I din't insist with a game (as originally intended). Maybe as I can get better I will be able to add this type of detail... 2. ...
Ok the feedback is spot on and quite clear. I will just leave this image here, since it is what I used as a reference - theatre model 3. ...
Here is the city model for reference. I tried to mimic this as best I could and in my mind the sun was above and to the left. The buildings behind, well I thought I would make them one darker colour since they were in the further plane and thus no details are visible. |

You can get points by commenting and rating, you don't have to upload any artwork to participate on the forum. Uploading artwork is the most time-consuming way to get points xP
