This castle is based off of the FF style. The grass needs redone but as of now I need C&C for the castle and tree's, how can I improve on them.

I have only been pixeling for 2 months now, my 1st W.I.P was posted when I 1st started, but didnt get much C&C so decided to wait till I got something that I thought was a 1000% improvement and worth asking again for C&C.

I would like to thank the few people who did post on my last post, but alot of you seem to not give C&C to everyone, just to thoese who at 1st seems to have major talent.

The Before

The after

Grass was supplied by Shred

Nice work so far.

I'd put some variation in your tiles. They look repetitive so it can be sort of distracting.

As far as the trees, I don't think the trunk is placed in the right perspective, which makes it look odd. It would probably be shorter and less wide toward the bottom.

I agree with everything Aleiav mentioned as well as making the bottom of the bushes more distinguishable from the grass tiles and lightening up the sides of the walls. They seem a bit too dark too fast. Maybe get progressively darker as you get further to the ground?

Every pixel counts, even the dead ones.

I think this is a good start, but I think there are a couple of things you could do to make it look better.

1) Less contrast in the stone work -- either less black, or everything else a little darker.

2) The trees are very round. If you broke up that sillhouette a little, they'd look more realistic. They're also a lot lighter than the rest of the scene... but if you take suggestion #1 they should fit in better.

You may also want to round out the bases of the trunks, so they look more like you're viewing them from above, like the castle, and not straight-on. Some darker shading on the right, like the towers have, would also be a nice touch.

3) The mirrored grass tiles are making a visible pattern. You might want to tweak them a bit.

4) The doors need work. I thought they were solid blocks of color until I looked closely.  Some grain similar to the tree trunks might work well. A darker outline under the stones at the top of the doorframe would make the doors look more inset. You might also try making the stones at the bottom of the doorframes go straight down, rather than curving like the top corners. Doors usually aren't made that way, so it looks a little funny.

5) Try flipping the stair tiles vertically. I can't quite explain why, but they really look like they're upside down.

6) Some animation on the flag would be a really nice touch. You could even make it bigger -- flags are almost never out of scale, since people make them in all sizes. It would definitely take some extra time, though.

Hope this is helpful to you, and keep up the good work -- I look forward to seeing the final result.

Edit: Whoops, cross-post -- that's what I get for leaving windows open while I go to lunch. So, what they said, too. Though I think more curvature of the base of the trunk may fix the perspective issue without needing to make it shorter.

Thanks for the C&C Ill try my best to iron out these problems, so in a few days I should have a new image posted.

Yeah it takes me a few days to do the simple things, but as I get better Im sure things will come to me naturally. I am greatful again to the few that have posted there comments, as for me this site and looking at Screen shots are the only learning means I have.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to post.
