OK, I've been working on this for the last few hours:

It's an Space Quest 2 screen I wanted to try improving. It is allmost done exept the bushes at the foreground and that damn cliff.  I tryed and I tryed and I tryed but the cliff doesn't look good. Can someone help me a little? Just give me an example or something.. I want to finish this one.

And also.. colour suggestions?

It'd be really cool to see the same lighting from the original piece in your rendition.  IE, the blue and green lighting against the trees.

Yeah I agree with Demon, doing the same lighting would be really good. This piece uses a similar lighting on the tree, and this piece has a nice cliff texture for you to study. This piece might also be a good study for what you're doing.

WOW, I <3 this.
I would recolor using the ref as a guide with natural coloring as you've started. lawerence provides great cliff refs.

Sace Quest rules!!!!!!

I erm, really like what you've done. I reccomend you just image search cliffs and use them as referances.
Every pixel counts, even the dead ones.

The longer I look at them the more I like the original. The funny thing is, the only thing I don't like about the original is the cliffs.

Your work shows us that you're very talented with your rendering, but I'd try to push yourself a little further and include, like others have mentioned, some of the sharp back lighting you see in the original. The way green and blue have been used really is a testement to how brilliant those old pixel arteests were with limited palettes. I'd also suggest following a similar path with your stones lighting.

I also find it strange how you've included black shading on only one of the bushes. I'd either use it everywhere (for a really sharp look) or not at all.

The texture of the trees doesn't seem to match the shading quality of the stones and grass either. I don't know what it is, but you might want to take a look at some wood texturing tuts or examples. By the sounds of it Lawrence is the man to ask if you're after pixel examples!

I like what you've done with the grass so far, and like I said, theres some nice rendering here! Just address the couple of things I mentioned and I reckon you'll have a stella scenic piece.
