I feel no shame in admitting that I'll be at Borders for a midnight magic party on Friday Night. :P

Obviously a work in progress; I'm working in steps and saving layers, too, so that I can animate later...c/c appreciated, of course. This is the first time I've played with lightsourcing like this. :)

Please...I want him to stay in the proportions he is. I like it. So don't tell me his legs should be longer, etc. >.<

-gasp!- its hairy crackpot!

is there a tertiary light source? otherwise the non-lighted parts should be almost black.

Ooh, looks pretty nice so far, especially for a first-time light source project. For some reason, I quite like the low-contrast shadows.

Like I said, first stages; there's going to be more shading when I get to it.

and I'd rather have the purplish shadows, too. I don't like too much black in a piece. So we'll call it a glowing room with very faint light from every side. XD

edit: and I'm going to fix that foot, because you're quite right. >.<

Here's where I'm at now. The Patronus is...hmm. I kind of like it, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking about a background, but don't have the energy tonight. (;

This looks so great, blue - you have come so far skill-wise. I think it would benefit a lot more to have his right side (to us, his left) a bit darker to contrast with the brightness on his left. Use some of the colours in his hair pallette a tad on his pants and vest and arm. It's looking great - AND got me excited for the sixth book. XD

All the colors in the pallete are converging to a very similar gray-blue tone. This is kinda bad because the different colors won't be very useful as they won't look much different from eachother.

I suggest you to keep the hue shift to blue, but cut the number of colors to a third or a half of what you got now and make the darkest shades darker.

Keep working! I'd also suggest adding a dark background, because it'll give it a lot of dark-room ambience.

Borders is the place to be eh?

Excellent dithering on the second go... the highlight coming from the wand looks great.

I actually like that about this piece. And to be quite frank, in shadows...colors DO converge to the same bluish tone.

And I didn't use nearly all those colors. I skipped around. Just made the palettes for the look of it.

I do agree here. He needs a darker left [his right] side...I'll work on that. (:

EDIT: worked on it!

and remember guys! Don't buy the American version, mail-order a copy from Canada! Our's (and practically everyone else's from around the world, but not America's) are made from 100% ancient forest friendly recycled paper.

WHERE WOULD THE CENTAURS LIVE IF WE TOOK DOWN THEIR FOREST????

Silly Saiklor... ancient forests make the best and most delicious smelling paper.  I'm suprised you didn't know that.

This background is going to be very good if you continue working on it!

Aaaah that looks much better! You've pixelled him perfectly.

OH NOOOO I'd have left the background out because I'm lazy XD you're going to have to pixel shadows, the light from his patronus charm on the trees, ground...etc. Good luck (but I bet you'll pull it off)

I know you've mentioned that you didnt want to change the proportions, but no matter how long I look at it I cant get over the horribly disproportioned right arm.

Its a massive distraction from the otherwise beautiful work. The arm is in such an awkard position, considering the character is supposed to be holding some sort of offensive pose. I'd also consider shifting the legs apart much further. This would make him seem more action-esque and less like his body has just been charmed with some sort of constricting spell. Just try standing like he is, and you'll find pretty quickly how unnatural it is- even for a wizard.

I know its late into the piece, but this is killing me to see!

On another note, I love the dithering on the vest, and the hair looks incredible. Good luck with the background!

Hmm. It might not actually be that bad to fix these things, since I still have every stage of the piece saved in layers. (: I was planning on doing an animation when I'm done...and it's not that hard to redo things you've already done...

can you help me out by showing me how you'd like the arm to be? Even if it were just a loose sketch, so I can get some idea of what I did wrong? I really don't see what's wrong with it.

I do agree about the legs, though, and might be able to play with those...

that stag is great. i think he should be walking forwards though so maybe you should make his right foot be leg be bent back a bit at the knee and him be on his toes (like walking lol) and also, i think maybe bring his right arm towards the body abit as it sticks out a bit too far ??

tried to take iSTVAN's advice...spread the legs apart a bit...and a new arm outline. Better?

EDIT: ah yes, and I'm ditching the old BG, going to try something completely different...I'll play with for something else. (;

Ah, but the original pose was more of a lunge. I'd suggest making your friend to do the pose you want, so you can see what it looks like.
