I was hoping to keep this is a seperatew piece as well as the piece I'm going to make it into but it got tagged as a WIP Revision Needed so I suppose I should chuck it in here... I'm going to turn it into the scene when Locke first sees Terra in her Esper form from FFVI.
....I made a sketch first then scanned it in because I'm horrible at getting the proportions right... Any feedback?....Her face was kind of tricky and I've got a couple of versions with different faces, I tried to use Terra's status picture to help a bit for the 2nd one but it was tricky... I tried to keep a very minute beast like appearance (arms are long, 'big' shoulders etc.) and I probably didn't give it enough 'beastyness' according to what she is like in the game, but i didn't want that.... It is 12 colours currently.....and yeaaah... So. First image: First facial expression I gave her.......Second Image: Different face, and I changed her neck a bit to make it look like she is looking up a bit more than the other one ![]() ![]() Created Locke now... First Image: Base......Second Image: With shine from Terra ![]() ![]() Added the Carpet....quite tedious....not completely happy with it ![]() 37 colours... Widened Terra's hips...tried to 'unpillow' her a bit too.....and obviously have done some more background....it happened in a pretty drab place which is annoying :P .......added a screenshot of the place it happened.... ![]() ![]() Fixed up the anatomies a fair bit.... ![]() Edited by crusader333 - 21 July 2007 at 4:56am |

Hello Crusader,
Nice colors! However I think you need to concentrate a bit on the anatomy. Women have larger hips. Lowerarms are too long. The fingers of the hands should be formed tighter. the thumb is way to far up her arm or the others are to far away of the thumb :) I like the glow on the man. When he leans back the shoulders should go much higher than you have. He also seems like to have broken something because it will be very dificult for a normal human being to be having the legs this way and both arms facing the other way. You should move the right arm (his left) more to his body and the legs should move more to the right so that only a really small part of the right leg is visible (his left) Hope this helps. Best regards from M.E. |

Cheers.....I changed the anatomy a little bit... I 'unbent' Lockes right arm a little bit and shortened Terra's arms a tad and moved her thumb down.....I added the next step with the carpet so u can see where they are placed in relation to each other now

Hi Crusader,
It can be shortened even further. Also I suggest to first create a right line form = line-art. The shading you have going here is what is called pillow shading. You have an even amount of shading towards the middle. Usually the legs have thicker parts where light will come and lower parts where there is a shade. It seems odd, but the hips of a woman are almost aligned with the shoulders. Remember that a baby has to go through :) So you should really give it more width on that area. Looking forward to your changes... Best regards from M.E. |

Hi Crusader,
Indeed, look at the picture that Metaru linked in. Look at the left hand side (her right) and notice how the hips are on the same line as her shoulder. You need to do a lot more! http://www.artsjournal.com/tobias/archives/1_UW__ballerina_15700r-thumb.jpg Look at her hands, shoulders hips and knees. You can have some freedom by bending the legs outwards but the human body cannot stand everything ![]() You should concider google-picture searching for the sitting down position as well. I know how tempting it is to start with colors. But it is good practice to start first with lines/blocks of color to get everything on his/her place and get feedback on it before starting to color. OK, it will take some more time, but it will definitely be getting better. Looking forward to your next work! Best regards from M.E. |

Yep cheers guys.....I know what I have to do with the legs..... I need to shade them a little different so the look like they are coming towards the viewpoint a bit more.....I'll less broaden her shoulders..........and I need to move Locke's legs simple to the right a bit more and maybe a bit of touch up on that too
Here's the picture I drew....... I need to practice drawing girls heaps more because I keep too much to the male proportions since I've only really ever drawn males ![]() |

Hello Crusader,
You are on the wrong track that shading will solve your problem. The outline needs to be corrected. The shading will only transfer the massa. Of course in-line and outline shapes form everything, but you should not think that the only thing wrong is your shades. I think the best way forward is to first find a good reference. Or find two or three references to make the pose matching what you are aiming for. Honestly without reference it will be very, very hard to draw anything! Sometimes following some rules will help you make a decent figure but still a reference would give you more of a creative incensative. Good luck searching for a reference on google picture search for instance. Best regards from M.E. |
