Here's my Mithraeum tile (#42). Does anyone have any critique for me? I'm not quite satisfied.

@Jinn, a3um added his tile now so your WIP tile is still in the main image.
EDIT: Jinn, the platforms in your tile are not perfectly isometric so if you are editing your tile to blend into a3um's tile then maybe you can edit those circular platforms a little? See my edit below for an isometric circle. Basically, whatever is the width of your circle then the height is half of it. I mention this because I know you don't really make isometric art and probably just didn't notice that. @Gecimen, understood you were finished so tile is added. Great job :) @Jeremy, posting with white BG is fine. So long as the outer color is not one of the 16 it doesn't matter to me. @Club Beuker, my, my how you've improved o.O Your tile needs a little something to make it pop more. Like a few (1 or 2) people or something on the ledge like a sculpture. I dunno its fine as is, just seems empty on its own :/ @Zenobia, nice tile all looks fine but maybe its a ruin to you and that's your intention? To me I see it as new with columns of different heights, not a ruin. If a ruin maybe you should add those 2 greens into it so its aged more? @WigglyWoo, You have 4 tiles now and I could find nowhere to fit them. You are not blending to your neighbors as well as you should. •The first tile is nice but its a little bit dirty and could use some cleaning up. •The second I think is the best tile of the 4 but your building could be shaped better and your stairs are not isometric. These type of stairs can be rough so consider adding evenly spaced support columns that hide the messy areas which are always left over on these kind of curves. I've made some guidelines for you to follow below. •Tiles 3 and 4 appear to have a creative idea behind them but are too messy and unreadable. I think you need to start those over or get rid of them altogether. Good idea, bad execution. Remember Manupix, has instituted a 'must fit in' rule. < (PM him about it if you need) • All tiles have colors not in the palette (purple pixels). Your tile will be rejected for adding colors and make whomever is adding tiles to the main pic unhappy as they wasted their time. Use the link in my siggy to verify your tiles have 16 max colors(17 if a pink tile), thx. ![]() Added a few more tiles. Looking awesome. Funny thing about collabs. My ground with skull has become a lava lake >.< NOTE: Let's start reserving tiles that have at least one neighbor now! NOTE: If you reserved a tile, before posting your final, double check that a neighboring tile to yours has not been completed and added to main pick. You may have to edit or tweak your tile to fit. Hey Jeremy, what do you think about making a cave in the ice just below the bridge, with a river coming from it? It would make your tile blend more nicely with a3um's one.

Damn, this project is awesome, and it's coming out really good!
I'd really like to claim a tile, but these days i have little possibility to connect to internet, so i cannot follow the forum and cannot collaborate with my neighbours. Maybe in a few days i will have a stable connection, and then (if there are tiles left...) i will claim a tile! Really good work, guys! |

I will try to add some more contrast, and some green (I didn't plan for it to be a ruin - the 'half column' is a Mithraeum altar - but I think the green will look good anyways). Tomorrow.

Ok, people...I'm seeing a lot of great stuff here, this is really fun!
But...I notice that some aspects of the palette is not used to its full potential; esp. how the blue & greens can be used to interpolate the greys and even create new shades. So I made a little example to illustrate my intentions. I took the fredoom the redraw snippets from a few tiles...this is not in any way intended as critique, just examples of some possible AA/mixes/methods. ![]() Edited by DawnBringer - 14 September 2010 at 2:37pm |

Yup. Cept you are probably not aware that the kraken's head is NOT iso. I think if the shadows ARE iso it will visually fix it as changing the face will kill the tile. Use that straight across shadow and mix in one or 2 pure iso lines and it almost always tricks the eye.
I'm thinking of making an abyss in the black area were red lava/fluid meets water in a ceremonial sacrifice pit or something, dunno quite yet till I touch it. Edited by jalonso - 14 September 2010 at 3:05pm |

@LuckyF: Yeah, I took those examples quite far. Often you'd like a bit more sharpness...so ppl, don't regard those pictures as exact instructions. They just show a few possible color usages. :)

Jeremy and a3um, I'm confused as to which is the last from both of you now.
I do see I need to tweak the stairs on my tile to match a3um a tiny bit so I just want to know which is his last update. Image below shows what I think are the latest tiles from both of you and also shows the edit I made to my stairs to match a3um. JakerPot your building edge is not very iso at all. The tile overall is great and a good solution for the hand. ![]() Notice the red lines which are not what you should do at all, just showing where things would naturally flow. I think the very corner of your tile should not end the possibility of having the building grow. I think maybe you can bring the column all the way so the tile above yours has something to work from, no? It may help to fade the lavaflow back there too. *Are we placing side bets on Dawn V. Lucky? |

Well the edge away from your tile is destroyed but your side doesn't have to be. I was just thinking that maybe that can be a tower, or support for a bridge or whatever your neighbor comes up with. I just thought cutting that robbed whomever does that tile up there. No must, just ideas to consider.
I noticed your lava doesn't match Jinn too well and figured you were still working that out. Atm, your lava looks very bright overall. Anyhoo, your tile is coming out great. Edited by jalonso - 14 September 2010 at 7:49pm |
