Hm, should be able to whip up something for this challenge, I think.

I get reminded of cats when I think of two different eye colors per eye :o

Any ideas on what to use the extra two color slots I have on? I'm thinking an extra shade for each of the eye color (which I didn't pick out yet) but it seems like a shame to waste a color slot for a small amount of pixels :x

I was never good at portraits.
Time to learn then!

I think I've already messed up construction lines.
Edit. No, I'm not good enough with head drawing to do it without references.
Time to sit in the bushes with camera!

Just to clarify - A color that is fully transparent is considered a color out of the whole 9 color pallet, correct?

Also, here's more progress:

Yes.

I'm not very good at portraits, is it going ok? Maybe there's something off that I don't notice?

Have not done any pixel art for a while but decided to have a go. Here is my WIP - just a very rough, quick sketch to get palette and ideas down first.

8 out of 9 colours used so far.

Well, sometimes I just don't feel like I can get the colors right. Any suggestions on my palette?

I just doodled this, but I didn't use the theme too well and the pose is boring.

So, I don't think I'll use this.

As it is at the moment:-

Actually I liked it more before, the contrast was more interesting and I lose focus watching the leaves.

started working on this. Now that I think about it, I can probably expand it to 80x80 pixels and use this one as an avatar

I like the colors in the one. I think the eyes could be a bit larger.

WIP for cat-type guy for game sprite CC = :)

The work keeps on going. I had to change the light source to simple frontal when I realized my skill wasn't enough to pull off shading from 2 ls at different angles :)

And no, I din't forget about heterochromia

I'm new to this (I only joined yesterday) so sorry if this is really obvious, but I got a message saying that this wasn't valid for the weekly challenge and I'm not sure why. Thanks to anyone who helps out. :)

Thanks, I was thinking the same it was looking washed out and too busy!

I have reverted back to my old palette, pruned the leaves back and darkened the one side. Oh, and I've also added some spots.

Still not 100% happy with it yet but here it is atm:-

The main problem is that you lost shape doing texture, it's hard to imagine it 3d like this.

EDIT
Started again and I like it better now:-

I don't know for certain - but it could be that it is not a portrait?

As mentioned, not a portrait and its very dirty and rough which is sloppy pixelling and it is an egg after all :/

Let me know what I might change for this one. I managed to stick to 4 colors. If anyone is curious about my shading process I'll be happy to run through it.

canvas size is 2x2
