Excellent advice, and my first comment!

Hue shifting is a new principle to me. I struggle with good shading, so this is definitely going to help me a lot. Maybe I won't be a victim to overdithering any longer. :P

cool sprite, you might try minimizing dithering and with more hue shifting in your color choices
