Uh, are you sure it's the poison mushroom? I tried to make the 1-Up (green) happy, the super mushroom (red) expressionless, and the poison mushroom (purple) grumpy. So, basically happy to angry in order of usefulness.

I have a question, why is the poison mushroom happy whereas the others are sad?
