two dolls, made 100% by me...the original was Arsenic, for a "chemical elements" contest...

I started with the base, making something that looked victorian, suited for a corset-y thing...and then looked for an outfit.

I stumbled upon a site called Arsenic Fashions and was inspired by a dress I found there...

I used metalic grey and yellow, because they are the colors of arsenic, and green because the element used to be used in making Emerald Green dye.

The lace, if you look closely, is made up of bugs - spiders, in particular - because arsenic is an insecticide! the clips in her hair, also look like bugs.

her jewelry and hair are bronze, because arsenic was used to strengthen bronze.

her skin is pale, because victorian women took arsenic in small doses to lighten their skin.

finally, she's holding a poison bottle - because arsenic was a VERY popular poison in the 1800s.

after I was done, I played with colors some, and come up with the lovely lady Absinthe...

Love the fabric of the dress!

I like absinthe, drunkeness is nice. the skin is too contrasty to the rest I think.

Good news, blue. Absinthe's legal in the US as of mid-2007 (http://itotd.com/articles/243/absinthe/).
I love this pixel art. The lace is great. She's really got character.

Beautiful, and I love the concept and the detail.

Absinthe's illegal? And it tastes like anaseed mixed with bleach, eugh. Anyway, great art, only thing that bugs me is her hand. I prefer arsenic.

haha, I'd love to try absinthe someday, even if it's gross. Unfortunately, it's illegal around here.

they're not really categorized together - just recolorations of the same doll. Couldn't decide which on I liked better, so I did both.

I do think that d-p is right, and the best would be absinthe's clothing with arsenic's hair...

The details are so intricate.

I wouldn't really put absinthe in the same category with arsenic. It's more of an alcoholic hallucinogenic than a poison. Tastes nasty, though.

wow...those are really beautiful! I love the detail in the dress, and the hair is amazing!

Yeah I was talking each one alone, really. 53 is kinda too much, you can do this in 32 without any detail or information loss. Conservation is always a good skill to have, but if you don't care for such excercises I'm sure nobody's going to sneak up and karate chop you on the side of the neck when you leas suspect it... probably...

In the 'I have 256 to use anyway' mentality, you really don't. You have as many thousand as a png file can hold... that's not why you shouldn't have many colours.

user
blue (Level 2 Peon) @ 3/31/2006 11:29
the color count is huge; I didn't even *try* to limit colors in this piece...since I  have 256 to work with, after all. (; sometimes I play with low-color pieces...I could post one of those, too...hmm.

::goes to count colors:: 53 for absinthe.. 56 for arsenic. 63 when they're together. ::wonders how that happened.:: heh.

Extremely competent renditions, especially considering this is doll work. Colour count?

user
blue (Level 2 Peon) @ 3/30/2006 07:12
I was a little nervous to post this, because it IS a doll - so thanks for the comments and favs!

I like the "worker's boot" look - I didn't want her to be TOO delicate, so that helps balance out some. (: the eyes/arm might be slightly out of proportion, so if you have any advice on how to *fix* that, that'd be helpful...

hmm i like the body, the dress, although on the right therre is an od piece of material, also the faces are kinda odd but after all these are doll! Gd'job!!! I like them zAk

Wonderful doll and clothes, the green colors are nice, so I prefer the version on the left and the hair color of the left one. The desaturated gray is too boring I think.

Lovely dresses. The hand and arm holding the bottle is very plain and odd though.

The attention to detail to this is crazy good.

I can see you put alot of efferot into this, and it paid off! Wonderful!

Shit, this is really well planned out. I love the little details like the lace, and the way the dress flows is well done as well.My only gripe is the placement of the eyes. They seem a little out or proportion to me, but it might just be stylistic.
