A PSP background of a recurring nightmare I've had.
I don't own a PSP- this is a halfhearted entry for a contest.

Also, if for some reason this isn't Pixel art, please tell me WHY and what I can do about it, not simply that it isn't pixel art. I'm rather new at this, and the rules aren't particularly explicit enough, apparently, so just help me out here and tell me if I'm doing this wrong.
Also, what qualifies something as an oekaki as opposed to Pixel Art?

I like your works!

Thanks Blick! That information will prove useful in my future endeavors. You're right about the lack of impact- I noticed that as soon as I colored it. It looks more like the fist is being pressed against the face than accellerating into it; I'll try to fix it.

I love it when pixel art is used as more than just a portrait, or a sprite, or tiles etc. Scenes like this are just so much more interesting, in my opinion. One thing I'd like to see done is more impact in the hit. It doesn't look to hit hard, perhaps have the guy's far eye closed tightly or squinting in pain.

As for what makes something pixel art and what makes it oekaki, pixel art is usually considered something done pixel by pixel by hand. It's done by zooming in, placing pixels, zooming out to see the results and repeating a few dozen more times until it looks right. Some pixel purists even consider the fill tool to be a "dirty tool", but most just think of tools that anti-alias in any way, or index painting (too hard for me to explain) as cheating. Oekaki has half toning (automatic dithering, basically) and is generally just a sketch, not a real completed piece, but in this case I'd consider it to be close enough to pixel art.

Apart from there not being a lot of shading involved it gives it a rather cartoony look. I like the concept, and the colours are cool. Nice work :)

I do not know either if something is or is not Pixel art. Sometimes I think that the whole PA is just masochistic art of self restriction - "do it dot by dot, if you draw a line or use fill tool it is not pa anymore!!" The picture looks good and it's funny  - this is all I can tell you.

looks like PA to me
