Yup true but there are designed for variable color background, so this is not very important.
I tested several backgrounds and I prefer this one :)

Looks nice, although the background color choice doesn't seem to compliment them very well.
The point of outlines is to make an item contrast well with its surroundings. In this case the background is darker than the outlines, which not only makes the outlines pointless, but also causes banding/blur issues.
