Instead of apologizing about the text, why not make it better? The words help the piece, but the pixelling on them does not. I think utilizing a more pixel-appropriate font face (or, more quickly, just hand-pixelling the letters in a solid colour), perhaps with a thick outline to aid legibility on other backgrounds, would be an easy fix that wouldn't detract from the rest of the art.
