there isn't much distinction here, everything seems almost like one repeated tile

The low color count is what killed the piece, for me. Your colors seem to have the same sort of glow to them and everything looks to be the same, except a bit noisy. It's hard to focus anywhere on it and it gets boring very fast. I think you should've indulged and made some better palettes, even if it meant using more colors, because that's surely what would've gotten it more votes.

I have a newfound respect for tiles. Yours displayed the most original looking tileset of all the entries. (mine the lamest, hehe)
