I love the original funky style. The only thing I can notice is that the hightlights on the bubble suggest a lightsource which conflicts with that of Mario's.
ugh i hate under water levels in all games they annoyed the heck outta me, interesting take on mario though.

Nice little rag doll style ya got going here. I like his jamaican like locks the most. The character looks pretty cool, but I still think the bubbles outlining darker blue could be less thick, or worked on a bit more. Other wise, its perrty' groovy.
