Study of anatomy, posing, face expression, composition, realistic shading and AA.

Maybe more to come, we'll see! ;)

Hope you like it!

Wrong

April fools

It's an original character, original design, original concept... A not so original delivery.

Jinn's series of women studies has always been an amazing inspiration, (Jinn you're awesome.) and now, a great study of pixel style. Here's hoping my attempts gave his style some justice.

Very nice piece.. I thought for sure it was one of Jinn's ladies. I can see your style shine through a bit still (in the hair). I love the way you used the frame; almost as if she sits in a window looking into the distance.

You mean because of the early colored wip or in general? The colored wip is a nice way to abstract from the reference and have a straight forward way to measure the limbs and make sure if it's all right as well as the overall pose. After that I paint it on the overall colors and then I build up the shades add details and so on. I figured that's the best way to work with references for me. Some people uses a grid on the canvas and in the reference in scale, I might try it someday. Seems like a good way too.

As for your approach, it seems very intuitive! I like that you rotate the piece a couple of times, it really helped a lot to make it look more natural!

Anyways, I guess I'm flooding your comments! :X

Wow. That's definitely not what I expected. Here's how mine looked like: https://imgur.com/5x1kooV

Really looking forward to that next piece.

Yes, I would love to see your process! I also saved some of the steps from my second to the last piece. Here it is in case you want to see it too: http://i.imgur.com/CMVuBjj.png

But you're totally right, I think the key for it to look good is to get it looking crisp even though you have to mix those cluesters with AA, too much and you blur the shape, to little and it's crispy in the wrong places. And on top of that, I try to force different tints to ramp in order for it look interesting to the eye. And you menaged to do it very well here.

I'm starting to work on a piece with two girls, and one is casting a shadow in the other, it's being a little more hard to make than I thought it would be, but it's a nice experience for sure!

Yeah. I could especially see how challenging it is to manage these colour clusters within an area so small, especially when you have so many colours (5-7) to handle at the time.

Then to make it all look smoothand crisp with AA.

Then to choose hues that go well together visually, and also compliment the personality of the subject lady.

Then to actually get the anatomy right, and strike an interesting and rich/provocative/emotional pose.

I can post my process pictures if anyone's interested. Especially you Jinn. The way I tackled this thing I believe may be a world of difference from your process. Honestly it felt very organic and unstructured. Who knows. Maybe the processes are similar.

I love it, Vagrant!

And I'm glad you too could learn by doing these studies!

You had me fooled, this is perfect

Also, it looks so nice with the PJ theme I'm using, the colors all together make it look so soft http://i.imgur.com/dkPaprj.png

On second thought, I did not account for the PJ background colour.

Damnation.
