For this weeks competition I chose the a pair of Tsukumogami, objects that become demons on their 100th birthday. The instrument is a Japanese Biwa, and a traditional garden lantern.

The biwa, known for its tragic and ghostly reportoire, is a well known Tsukumogami known as Biwa-bokuboku who wanders the halls at night lamenting that he is rarely played by his owner. The biwa is played with a large spatula-like plectrum, which can be seen in the demons hand,

Since the Biwa is derived from the Chinese Pipa, and a Biwa Tsukumogami is perhaps related to the ancient tale of Pipa Jing, where a Jade Pipa becomes a Yaoguai, seductive demon, I decided to depict this one as a female.
