Yes, maybe black border line is too big. I did it to separate foreground from background.

This piece is wacky in a well-executed way! I especially love the character (and statue) expressions. The palette is bright without being oversaturated.

I'm less of a fan of the thick sprite outlines, which feel unncessary given your well-planned color choices and solid construction. Also, without reliance on an alpha channel, that external AA  will look like dust around the sprites on darker backdrops.

The pillar on the right (especially the base) seems a bit under-designed compared to the rest of the piece.
