I like your work ergg and the way you texture stuff. But I didn't quite like the tree.
It's hard for me to explain this, but the picture looks plain even if it's supposed to have depth.
The animal's back legs are on the same level as the front legs.
Grass is kinda top view, land is confusing, plants are in a different angle from the grass and the tree's branches could use some work :p.
Sometimes you confuse me, your art is so mature at the same time not.
For exemple look at those amazing plants on the front, then I look at the tree branches and it makes me a little sad :(, but the roots, amazing.
I believe you're forgetting to cast some shadows man!
I also think the mecha animal could use some work in texture/rendering.

I think it was submitted as a challenge entry by mistake. It's far from looking like a merperson and the descriptions states it's an unfinished project from a year ago, so I believe there's no way this person intentionally submitted this as a challenge entry (and even if it were a merman/mermaid, it wouldn't count anyways since it's not a new pixel).
I'm not sure what I'm missing here, or how other's see it. But to my opinion, that does not look like a mermaid / merman to me.
I admit, I've been lazy in the end. So I have updated a little the sky. Better ?

Unfortunately, it looks unfinished, like it's still in the oekaki-esque colours-and-shapes stage, with only a little bit of pixel-level refining in some parts.
