There will be a solid amount of backtracking through areas as you gain power and access. The fundamental element of a metroidvania, in my mind, is the ability to revisit old challenges with new-found abilities. That will be in there, for sure.
Integral as in is meaningful to the gameplay, rather than a more superficial mode of spatial unlocking.
Mirror's Edge can't keep up with this. Not even "Run, Forest, run!" Gump can.
Thanks! It's a metroidvania. This bit just shows off the acrobatics/running. Most of the game isn't this fast, or straight.

A fast-paced athletic Metroidvania? Wow, it looks really good (though maybe hard). Unique concept, excellent sprite work, satisfying animation, looks like a dream.

Yeah, the jumps and slides are excellent! The landing parts just looks a bit odd, it may look more realistic if he slithers crouched for a small amount of time after each landing. Also, the slithering does not show any friction. (a pity, but maybe this is intentional to maintain the fast pace) Did I say that the jumps are super-excellent? I wonder how the hero decides what jump he has to do? Hands first? Single-salto? Double-salto? Never saw this before, wow!
Ha! Thanks! Yes, the gameplay isn't to this point yet, but there aren't any known issues standing between our current prototype and this.
Thanks! All the animation is done in Photoshop. The scene was assembled and the camera was animated in 3DS Max.
