Wow, for a moment there I thought it was a spaceship shown from the outside! But after taking a better look at it, it's indeed a spaceship interior... And a rather cool one too!
I likey
Thanks MadMage, Stars went missing cuz I edited an earlier version. Wasn't too happy with them anyway. Black just seems to work better, glad we agree.
The pannel reminds me of a skull. (Which is not a critique)
I don't know if that was on purpose, but adding stars to the preview file vs adding a pitch black BG on tha main piece was awesome for giving a clue of what was depicted here. Nice approach to the "spaceship interior" thing.
Edit:
Think I solved the helmet by cutting out a different section of the image. Now I'm not too sure about the arm.
Front end was still a bit of a pain so I figured it needed to be darker. So dark that even the starfield went missing. Oh well, guess it's pretty dark in outer space anyway.
Thanks eishiya.
The pilot's helmet and the front of the...ship? dashboard? form tangents with the edges of the image, which looks weird and uncomfortable. Give them some padding, or crop them to remove the tangent.
If you're not sure what I mean by "tangent", this guide might help. It's geared towards comics, but all the same principles apply to pixel art.
Thanks Eggy.
I'm quite pleased I managed to create something that leaves room for other people's imagination. Must be why darkness works so well.
More darkness equals more imagination. Worth experimenting with.
