That is an interesting dragon design. It looks fairly slim, and therefore appears somewhat like an azian dragon or some large herbivore dinosaur. Some points to improve:
Dragon:
- The shape of the dragon is a bit inconsistent: Its tail becomes a bit broader towards the end. The tail and spine form an acute angle, but the tail should really just be an extension of the spine of the dragon.
- The borders of the dragon are jaggy: e.g., the front part of the neck is jaggy.
- The inner parts of the wing are really jaggy.
- The line of brown in between the back legs of the dragon does not look like background, but looks like part of the dragon instead.
- Lots of banding in the shading (gradients).
- The color ramp of the green dragon needs more contrast. Adding more contrast will also show you the errors in shading better.
- Some parts use the darkest green as a shade, but some parts do not. I would shade both limbs in the background completely. The start of the tail has a shade, whereas the end of the tail (same orientation) does not. In fact, the very end of the tail (where it curls back) even catches a highlight? The shading of the horn has "hugging" going on.
- The highlights are sometimes missing, too small, or too big: e.g., the nose of the dragon should catch light, judging by the back of the head. The entirety of the vertical part of the back of the neck, judging by the tail. You should shade consistently.
- The big highlights on the limbs are simply ellipsoid. You should use these clusters better, in order to convey the shape of the dragon better.
Scenery:
- The use of a partial transparent background doesn't look that great in this composition. I recommend using a completely transparent or opaque background.
- The horizon should just be a horizontal line. The waves look very stylistic, childish perhaps.
- The butterfly looks too symmetrical (facing the viewpoint straight on), and a bit unconventional in shape. TBH, it looks more like a RC plane about to crash into the dragon.
- The background scenery looks odd, e.g., the pattern of the road is too regular.
- What is the pink cluster? It looks like chewing gum.
Thank you very much for the very through feedback! Hmm looks likes the dragon needs a more bigger re-work then I managed to notice. Yeah I guess I should remove the sea/road/beach background all together instead of trying a quick half/half. The pink cluster was meant to be a worm but I realise now he kinda has a wonky perspective. Thanks again for spending your time on the critique, Ill be going over the entire thing and try to implement the feedback, was not as finished as I first thought, woops.
