Also, I don't think the dithering inside the hole is very effective: it could be confused with the chainmail texture and it gives less depth than a solid darker colour.
The symmetry is slightly off, for instance at the base of the helmet (1-2-1 pixels gives a jagged look at the curve, try 2-2-1 maybe?
Other than that, it's a nice improvement from your other sprites when it comes to texture, keep at it!
Add some colors to your palette. Grayscale only gets you so far. There are a bunch of tutorials floating out there.
I admit that I didn't take proper measurements for the face plate and I now see that the darker chainmail might be confusing. Thank you!
