A Pixel-Dailies entry for the theme "Conker's Bad Fur Day".
By the time of the game's N64 release in 2001, Rare was done making portable games for the original grey Game Boy and had moved on to its Color counterpart for some time. Bad Fur Day's downsized companion Pocket Tales - released in 1999 to tie in with the N64 game's prototype - was a dual-format cartridge but games like Mickey's Racing Adventure, the GBC Perfect Dark and the port of Donkey Kong Country 1 were all built to take advantage of the extra colours and memory. Apart from Sabre Wulf for the GBA, Rareware were pretty much done making sidescrolling platformers too.
Pocket Tales already gave us a top-down Conker adventure to imitate the open-world format of Bad Fur Day. This mockup is instead heavily based on the Donkey Kong Land series, the handheld pseudo-remixes of the SNES Country trilogy. Each game had Super Game Boy compatibility for added colour and Land 3 boasted a Japan-exclusive GBC edition. Those enhancements - along with the aforementioned GBC Donkey Kong Country - serve as the basis for this hypothetical, dual-format sidescroller. |
This is lovely!
