It could definately be better without the black background. It looks to much like you did two sepereate pieces, and pasted on onto another. Try some shadows, footprints, or something to make it look like they belong on that background.

This is 80% great. The black outline here kills it. Imho, I would use a dak version of the appropriate color for each fella, or if you really like the black then in that case a double or even triple thick outline could give this the missing elements. Shadows in either case is really, really neede to *ground* the fellas. The color are great.
