I'm working on a Souls-like Metroidvania game and chose to work with a silhouette method for efficiencies sake, that way I can focus on animations and not stress too much about colour (since it's a solo project). Thought I'd post the hammering animation for the blacksmith here. The game's color palette is restricted to 12.5% lum increments on the B&W spectrum with the addition of red for blood. so a total of 9 "colors".

looks smooth, and I wouldn't add motion blurr either, looks fine as is

knew it was Andre straight away

if you allow him to be aggro'd, make sure his boxing game is strong

I don't think i would add a motion trail. I like the crispness as it is. Great animation! Looks like Andre at work. :x

Thanks for the feedback about the motion blur trails guys, I'm not 100% sure I agree here. I've tried it with a trail it doesn't look quite as hot :( I usually reserve trails for attack animations where collision and extra emphasis on heavy stuff is needed. That's just preference though. I definitely respect where you're coming from.

Hey CritiqueMyWork. To me... it's tough as nails, has a heavy focus on combat. XD OH and it has to be dark!

What is a souls-like game? What features would you include in such game?

I agree with "479482o1" about acceleration.

This is really nice!

Even if you don't want smears, a frame or two of building up momentum on the hammer instead of instantly accelerating it to full speed would give it a much better sense of weight. Otherwise a very convincing silhouette!

It looks really good, very lively, but I think it'd look even better if you added some smears as he throws the hammer down (see for example: http://i.imgur.com/FhuNQXC.png )
