Thanks JerryPie !
It was inspired by last week challenge on colors of japan, the first thought i had was a cherry tree - I really love the idea of a pink tree.
I started blocking tiles out as 8x8 solid color squares - detailled a few tiles I copied here and there (it's mostly tile based)
At this point it was a nice scene but quite empty so i added this character - probably very inspired by Cave Story character but it wasn't really intentionnal - added a few birds to give it some life.
Since the red and pink tree felt kind of extra terrestrial like i figured out i would add some stars to emphasis a bit on that - polished the whole thing up so tiles blend well and don't feel too repeat-y
I felt the whole scene was a bit static so I went on that animation - I love how little animation can bring some life to a piece. main inspiration there were animated sceneries by cocefi http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/79056.htm - http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/72648.htm
I wish i wasn't too lazy to animate the rest of it, like the birds, a few leaves falling :/
Last addition was the cat in the bottom since this part was kind of empty - took a few reference of sleeping dogs for the pose.
Sorry I couldn't bring any image on the process ! I have this bad habit of never saving things (i don't even have the psd with separated layers anymore :( )
Wow! Id loved to see your thought process on this one. Everything works so well together. Was there any outside inspiration like a tv show or game? As simple as they are, the constellation lines/glow really knock me out! So cool!
Outstanding piece!!! What a great way to put pixels together
I wish it was animated too haha, actually the cat is a last minute addition - I was about to post it and realised the bottom part was kind of empty and needed something of interest. Tried some kind of breathing animation but couldn't get it right then I got bored of it
(and yes it is starry, thanks for pointing that out !)
Instawin!
Wish the cat had a subtle anim too =)
(btw shouldn't it be starry?)
Gorgeous stuff! Ready for some cute platformer...
Yeah, this is inspired by my favorite pixelart related quote by Mrmo : "Rule #2: If in doubt, use tilesets!"
Thanks :D
Mrmo-flavored... beautiful stuff, especially the animation of the shoes. Everything is simple, clean, and beautiful to look at.
I don't know what to say.
I'm in love with his feet animation <3
