I suppose what I meant was that I'm sure they didn't mean it to be offensive, even if it did end up coming off as that!
Creating small palletes is definitely a challenge with big pieces, but you're doing fine so far! I always find the near white and near black colours are easiest to reuse so that might help you in shrinking them further!
@Mega_19
Pillow shading! Well, the effect I was going for with the waterfall was the same as the smaller one, with a line of light hitting the apex of the water and the light trickling down, but I totally see where I could have tightened it up and improved the effect while making the whole thing look tighter.
Of course I used references!! Many!! I worked for hours on these, trying to properly texture my work. My rocks went through three different shading styles before I settled on this one, and I actually really like it! Do you think the blank space in the middle is to poor effect? Objectively bad, or acceptable? Would love a response!
And thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it, since these projects are for learning. All of that being said, I'm still really happy with my improvements over the course of this piece, as well as the end result! Plus what I learned about palletes, shading and texture is really useful!
@mioscene
I understand this! I appreciate feedback, and I like to know what others think, but I felt that their comment was not only uninfortmative, but unconstructive - as in, served no purpose other than to make me feel bad.
Thank you! I appreciate the criticism, and I think I see what you mean about the colors. Perhaps if I had used more of those oranges, maybe in the rocks, especially the one on the left, that would have created a stronger effect. Working on bigger pieces like I've been doing, one of the new challenges is creating very large palletes, and I'm still working on making them as small but useful as possible!
Anyway, thanks for the comment, I'll keep what you said in mind!
there are some issues with this. avoid pillow shading, the waterfall is a good example of this. always have in mind where is your light source.
see some references: the rocks, mountains, sky, water etc.
doing these like this will make them look a bit unfinished, since the mountain doesnt have any texture at all. but if you did get some references, dont worry practice makes perfect.
your color choice its pretty nice, i like em, but it feels that you used a bit much of colors
the tree looks nice, maybe put some roots over the rock?
anyways keep it up and keep these coming too...
Remember that this site is to improve so don't worry about critiques that seem a bit rude! It's all to help you get better, even if it seems a little mean!
I think it looks really nice! Like Ima, I think there are a few parts that could benifit from a little more work, like the pool underneath the fountain and the mountains. But as artists of course, there's no such thing as a stopping point so I think it's fine as it is! I love the tree and the sky but it feels a little like the colours from both of those are underused so perhaps if you were ever to revisit this you could try to reuse the colours in other parts of image!
@Ima B.Strong
This is rly rude n mean??? Like, not only did I express how happy I am with this piece, but all you offered was a vague criticism which pointed toward nothing expressly 'wrong' in the art, but instead was your opinion wrapped up in an arrogant remark of 'unfortunately,' as if your word is law and you're some high-class professional whose opinion I begged for. Moreover, you offered nothing but negativity for art that's full of different parts, many of which I'm sure you think were done well, and yet you were so eager to tell me what was objectively wrong in my piece that you didn't stop to consider what you actually liked, and still you offered no explanation of your thoughts.
You seem a little bit like a jerk, unfortunately
Looks a little unfinished in some areas, unfortunately.
The soft colors compliment the style of this piece. From what I see, the style is soft, simple, and clean. With that being said, I can't find anything that looks unfinished.
Here are some things to consider and try. Water is a reflective surface, so it can also include colors from the sky and nearby objects. The reason why water is blue, is because it reflects the color of the sky. Though you have to keep in mind the state of the water. Water with tons of ripples and foam, like at the bottom of a waterfall, will not be able to reflect as efficiently as still water.
