Pretty interesting design, and I like the way you did the clusters. By snes style, do you mean the overall feel of snes games? Or do you have a specific aspect that you incorporate in your pixel art?
About the animation, I am not a good animator myself, so please take my comment with a grain of salt, but don't you think the animation could improve a lot if you moved the character's trunk and hip a little bit more? It is like the left arm is moving in a way totally independent of the rest of the body. I have actually seen some people walking like that in real life, but it was so wierd :P I like the way the legs move, but if the hip stays still, it turns up strange. There is something about the right that does not feel right with the overall animation, like he is casually walking with no fighting stance, but with a sword pointing forward.
Anyways, keep up the good wotk o/
