This is really impressive
I remember when I was digging it on RH after it was released :)
There was also other version for different hardware if I'm not wrong
Aye, these days I use Timanthes which lets me set the graphics layer properties to whatever C64 mode I want to use - if I use too many colours in a block, it turns the pixel(s) I placed last red, so I notice instantly. I use it for MSX1 graphics as well, since the AFLI limitations are basically the same as the normal MSX1 bitmap limitations. When I was making graphics for the MSX1 16-18 years ago I used Deluxe Paint 4 on the Amiga, and had to keep track of all that stuff myself. Timanthes makes it so much easier.
When working with limitations like the 8x1 thing, do u have some kind of program that helps keep track of that? I have a hard time counting pixels a few columns over to verify this actually doesn't break the "rules" like u mentioned earlier. I can't imagine creating such a cool picture and also focusing on these strict limitations. U must have some kind of help, right!?!
Regardless, this picture is magical and truly nostalgic. Favorite!
But the leftmost 3 char columns get messed up and are either light grey, or you plop sprites on top of them if you need other colours. It's a really fun mode though, and this picture rocks.
AFLI doesn't flicker at all. It's based on the native 320x200 bitmap format, but tricks the graphics chip into getting new colour information per line instead of per character block, so the colour resolution increases from 2 colours per 8x8 pixel block to 2 colours per 8x1 pixel block.
Sweet! So does AFLI flicker etc. or is it stable?
Oh that is so adorable! Especially it looks fantastic on a CRT screen. Good job on restrictions, encredibly done.
Thank you jok! Yes, there's an older version for MSX-1 computers, I should finish that one day too.
