I didn't even think about the fact that he is basically throwing flesh balls, that is pretty messed up!

Yep! The 'head lift' part is the alert animation for when the player is spotted. Glad you like it!
I like the small effects like the head lift thing, it looks good. I'm assuming it's kind of an 'alert!' animation? It's amusing to watch, so I think that's a win in and of itself.
Am I the only one weirded out by the whole idea of a snowman throwing snowballs? He's throwing the same stuff of which he's composed: isn't that like a human throwing fleshballs? Is it just me who finds that unnerving? Maybe.
It may help to add "follow-through" to the throwing animation rather than having his arms stop like catapults. I think replacing the "swoosh" effect with a few more frames would make the throw look even more powerful.
Instead of fleshballs I like to imagine he is throwing little baby snowmen into the battle to attack.
