Even lowly peasants deserve fair pay for their work! Trust me, if you're not getting commissions, it has nothing to do with your prices, and everything to do with people who would want your services not knowing you exist (and people knowing you exist not needing your services). Charge at least as much as would cover the time spent making them at a living wage ($15/hr, ideally more). So, unless the icons take you ~20 minutes each from conception to finish, you should be charging more than $5.

Undercharging doesn't help you get work, and it only undervalues you and other artists in the field, making it hard for everyone to get paid fairly. This makes things harder for commissioners, as well - the more artists have to find other jobs to support themselves, the fewer options commissioners have.

$5 for what is essentially someone's branding? I hope that's a non-negotiable minimum. You deserve way more!
