This is a quick mockup for a game I have started to program on my spare time.

It's a puzzle-platformer which primarily makes use of gravity and funky screen-wraping mechanics. It is an upgrade to a prototype game I made almost 8 years ago called Mazeman.

Exactly 4 colors, tiles 20x20 pixels.

Let me know what you think in the comments! Criticism would be very helpful ;)

EDIT: Updated to show off the new HUD.

Very nice palette and tiles.

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 4/15/2017 05:33

Ha ha thanks, I actually did end up making that change a little while ago

TRUEvector (Level 6 Commander) @ 4/14/2017 23:19

Love that soft calm pallete!

And BTW, you should add some space to the fail counter, so there could fit 3 number! :)

polyducks (Level 2 Peon) @ 3/26/2017 01:43

That makes sense! Maybe uncluttered is the way to go.

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 3/25/2017 17:13

Thanks! The game is on hold for now. As for the background, I need to keep it uncluttered due to the confusing nature of this game, lol.

polyducks (Level 2 Peon) @ 3/25/2017 16:00

What a lovely look! Did you ever finish the game? Perhaps consider adding some vague pipework in the background with your two most darkest colours to help break up the repetition.

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/31/2017 13:57

Thank you :)

MetinSeven (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/31/2017 11:16

Looks cool! Love the minimal use of color.

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/14/2017 21:17

You're absolutely right, the key does kinda break the style by being static. I will work on an animation for it, thank you for the feedback :)

In the meantime, I've updated and added a new HUD which you can now see if you hit refresh on the page!

pectaquad (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 1/14/2017 19:02

This is gr8, but showing how a lot of things are moving in that mockup, it'd only fit if the key would also spin or something. Looks great either way though.

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/14/2017 14:28

Thanks Mandrill :) Means a lot coming from a pixel artist at your level!

Mandrill (Level 8 Partner) @ 1/14/2017 08:09

Lovely tiles!

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/12/2017 14:04

Yeah, I'm finding out that browsers are not ideal for displaying animations. It will be smoother in-game.

Monsi (Level 1 Private) @ 1/12/2017 08:57

looks so cool but the coins appear to jump on the loop

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/11/2017 04:11

Yes, I've started out programming first, but I don't do it as a day job, just a hobby. I studied software engineering in school :) Why do you ask?

Dream Mix (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/10/2017 22:43

First and foremost I mean

Dream Mix (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/10/2017 22:43

Are you a coder?

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/9/2017 18:43

There we go, think I've fixed it! May need to refresh the page before you can see the change. Thanks for the advice Manupix!

ParkerBabyDiaperCompany (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 1/9/2017 18:02

I think you should do something to make it play faster, even at the sacrifice of the coin's matching the squid's animation. It just looks seriously lagging now. Without the animation problems, I like this image quite a lot.

Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/9/2017 18:00

Definitely, 20 ms should be safe. Also your anim software might have a 'preview in browser' feature, that's helpful in finetuning things without too much hassle.

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/9/2017 14:09

Thanks :) Does jumping and breaking block count as telekinetic powers?

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/9/2017 14:07

Frame delay is 60ms in the preview and 15ms in the main file. Had to do it this way to make animation timings match up between the coins and the octopus. Should I try slowing it down some to speed it up? (That statement contradicts itself in a weird way :P)

Artifice Machine (Level 6 Hitman) @ 1/9/2017 08:47

I imagine the octopus creature having some kind of psychic-kinetic powers.

It is very slow though.

Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/9/2017 07:59

It is very slow, tho the preview is fine. What frame delay are you using? Looks much longer than 0.1", which seems to rule out the usual explanation.

pyrometal (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 1/9/2017 04:14

Unfortunately not yet, I'm still in the very early stages of development. I was just creating game assets and wanted to see what it could look like put toghether to help motivate myself.

Dream Mix (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/9/2017 03:17

Awesome man! Can we play this anywhere? I'm a gamedev myself. :)
