It's kind of lacking and uninteresting as an animation. The recoil is a bit too smooth and would be better off it were done in less frames(like 1 frame) with perhaps a bit of exageration. This would add some more force to it. I made a little edit that you can look at if you want. The movement might be a bit exaggerated for what you want, but should give you some ideas.

Try looking at it in an animation editor and remove one of the recoil frames(they're frames 3 &4 I believe)
Well, now that I think about it, maybe the shadow should only be used if it's indoors, or a dark place. Plus, it's kinda strange that the recoil begins before it shoots.(kinda, it hard to notice, but it probably isn't THAT big of a deal.)
In THAT case, I'd think you'd want to crank the contrast on firing up a couple notches, to add more detail on it.
I still think it looks good with the shadow in the back, even if it's not that giant.
Cheers guys. And Dark Rogue, thanks for the idea, i'll get onto the shadows right away.
Everything that Skull said, but i'd add and extra boost of lighting in the front, and a shadow to the back of it.
Awesome animation though.
