An early development look at a (yet-to-be-named) protagonist sprite for a (yet-to-be-named) Sci-Fi/Thriller game, my brother, Mikail Villiger and I are working on. The game will feature Run N' Gun action and story propelled segments. The player will need to discover and piece together various clues to his mysterious origin in order to complete the game.

The character design was conceptualized by my brother and interpreted by me in pixel form. The sprite stylization was inspired by the great pixel artists that passed through Lucas Arts during the 80's and 90's and a myraid of classic Sci-Fi characters. The 'preview' image is a door to be featured in the game at some point. The black drone is a familiar/companion of sorts that will flash rapidly when the player is low on health.

P.S. This ended up being way too many frames (145). I couldn't seem to match-up the pulse of the drone with the highlights and head turns. Frame reduction will happen at some point in the future.

Flashback and Another World are obvious influences, however, where Flashback is more of a cinematic platformer with cumbersome controls, this game will shy away from the Prince of Persia roots and take it's cues from Metal Slug or Contra. There will be deliberate parts that slow down and focus on the story, but the majority of the gameplay will be a lot more action oriented. No rotoscoping or things characteristic of those games but we aim for a cinematic experience with fun Run N' Gun segments. Appreciate the support!

you want to make it like Flashback? I always wanted to make a game like Another World orFlashback, but yeah.. Big ambitious projects often end up in the recycle bin.. One can start with nice pixelpieces and a game mockup. Or a animated pixel storyboard or cutscene or rotoscoped runcycle. Good luck man! I like this kind of stuff!
