Study from photo reference. Following on from the last two studies I did I've doubled the palette, worked at a lower resolution and concentrated on pixel clusters and hard edges over dithering.
Original reference is here.
The colors are really pleasing.
I like it. Cool color choices.
that grass looks more like skies, and I think it makes your piece look much better when assuming it's skies
textures and colors are sick! well done! :)
Yeah, I struggled with the grass, there's no context to it that makes it read as grass so it just looks like a mess of dithering. Looking at it after the fact it would probably have worked better if I'd have moved further away from the source image and implied the grass through outline and colouring instead of trying to capture the texture.
I plan on doing more of these at some point soon so I might try and find another image with the same mix of textures and try and tackle it again.
Awesome texturing and palette. Still for some reason I like the composition in the preview better.
I think this is the most successful of your series. I agree with Reo--the top could look a lot better, in both the smoothing of the dithering texture and further separation of the foreground and background.
Well I just looked at the reference picture, and it looks like the top is grass. I assumed it was clouds in the background. I think it's because there is a peak of the cliff face that has a defined top that is in front of the grass--and that cliff face is not present in the reference image.
Only thing I don't like about this is the noisy dithering on top of the rocks. Otherwise it is gorgeous
Really nice. The coloring is wonderful, I love the marbling. I like how you simplified the geometry.
