IMO the unsaturated colors actually work well as a stylistic choice. They give the face a relatively high contrast and make it an effective focal point, despite the high amount of detail in the rest of the piece. Also, the overall form feels nice and solid, which is something a lot of pixel artists struggle with. Good work!
Yeah, I don't get the vibe he is wearing a uniform per se (more casual rebel attire) but apart from the skin and shirt, the entire sprite is made up of greyscale colour ramps. I think having a lighter colour on his hands (or pants) would balance out a bit more. You have the benefit of this being a larger sprite so everything is well defined, but if it were smaller it would run the risk of looking like a silhouette with a floating head (perhaps not that extreme but you get the idea!). As for the blaster that is an easy fix, just flip the barrels and re-adjust and compensate for the angle -- problem solved. The hard part is already done! A few tweaks and I'd say you are well on your way to a great looking sprite. However, that is just nitpicky stuff... if you kept it the way it is, I still wouldn't mind. I really dig this!
Maybe I could change the colors on the pants. He does look like he's wearing a uniform, and he isn't supposed to be.
Also, I tried to put the light source someone in the upper left. I agree that the highlight may be a bit off, but I'm not sure I want to sacrifice where it is to put it on the other side of a blaster.
Secondly, thank you for calling it blaster and not a gun.
Nice Sprite! Good form and overall -- it's well executed. Loving the fabric folds on the pants and boots. My only recommendation would be to ditch the gloves and just have bare hands. I feel it would balance the sprite our more (colour-wise). Also, your light source on the blaster doesn't match the rest of the sprite. The shadow should be on the underside of the barrel.
Thankya!
I feel like I should clarify that the pants shared the same colors as the jacket, and that I reuploaded this current version, with the beige pants, a couple of days ago.
