omg thank you so much :.D I am so flattered to be an inspiration behind such a magnificent piece! <3
@Manupix thanks so much for the technicals! I can see those lines now! They're almost tangents, and I know they should be avoided. Guess I got too wrapped up in other details and not the bigger picture, oops!
Yes, I wasn't too sure how to do the shading on the arm, I sorta winged it, and I did think the tongue was a bit too big for her mouth. As for the thing on her head, I think its supposed to be sushi? Splatoon charas are based on sea creatures, so I don't really know. Either way, maybe I should've curved it down so it actually sits on her head, or just make it bigger and flatter so it reads more. I thought having it curve upwards gave it the impression of it being 'alive' I suppose.
Thanks for taking the time to comment! I'll see if I can do some fixing.
@Rhlstudios Ahhh! Thanks so much for your kind words! I'll have to be honest, it was mostly your work that made me realise I should push colours more. Its gorgeous!
I can even use diagonal and straight lines to my advantage
That is the essence of it! However readability should be foremost, and this piece has issues in this respect.
Lines and clusters should be optimized to best convey volumes, esp. in characters.
The composite horizontal line that includes her right ear-ring (our left) and upper arm is actually confusing, it prevented me from seeing her arm for a long while. Also the shading of that upper arm doesn't seem to make sense (no volume).
Her face is also quite unreadable to me, I don't know if she has a mouth or beak, and the things on her head are confusing. I see a phone! Maybe dark glasses would help for a start.
I love the colors, dynamic pose and general character awesomeness!
This is fantastic, I love it! It's so stylish, expressive, and animated. Wonderful job, stepping out of your comfort zone definitely paid off! Keep up the great work :D
Heh, thanks!
