Perseus wasn't the only person ever to ride Pegasus. Bellerophon was the only man to ever tame the winged horse.
The game this submission would be for is obviously a top down shoot-em-up. I didn't get to work on it as much as I wanted to but tried to mix as much detail as I could. The wings were referenced from a bunch of youtube videos of doves flying and the horse from a random "white horse" image found via google. Bellerophon was made from scratch. The plan was to make the sprite do more things like show off the right to left and left to right animations. Also I wanted to have Bellerophon throw his spear. The time crunch just got to be too much. The original intent was actually to have Perseus riding Pegasus instead of Bellerophon, having a bag that he would reach in and pull out Medusa's head which would shoot a beam and destroy enemies, but that became a chore as the sprite I started to make for Perseus didn't read very well. i might revisit this one again and make Perseus too, as if he were another playable character. I also didn't finish the shading the "flanks", as they say, but like I said, I'll eventually come back to this. So just don't look at that part... I mean what're you looking at the horse's behind so closely for anyway!?
I love these weekly contests because they give so many good ideas that continue on way after the contest is over. There were several ideas floating around in my mind that I may still make, but there are a lot of projects I already have planned so they probably won't see the gallerey for quite awhile. I'm really happy with this submission so I hope you all are too! Enjoy and keep getting better!

Thanks! You're right, there are a few things I could definitely work on with this one. I never finished the shading/highlights in the horse's rump and I could certainly make Bellerophon a little more complete in his movements. Time was against me despite my ambitious attempt for this contest. It's hard to complete things from your mind's eye to a graphic when you're rushing to complete it. I think I still have the original animation file for this, too, so it's not out of the question to go back and touch it up. Thanks for reminding me it's still here and waiting.
