After seeing a recent mockup here I decided to make my own. I tried experimenting with really simple graphics like Pokemon and stuff.

The character is bigger than the trees. I know it's normal to have abnormally small trees, but this is too much.

I disagree, contrast is not always good. The player doesn't seem to fit (as if he's in the wrong game).

Love the pastel colors. Good contrast with the player sprite, too.

@The B.O.B- i may be wrong (kick me if i am) but i think thats the side of a cliff or mountian sort of thing not a building but either way i see what you mean the mountain side/building lacks something that makes it look unfinished. :)

I love your idea for the rock face. That is killer. Looks great and you don't have to waste any time drawing insane details. One problem with it: the top of the door cuts into one of the v-shaped out-dents in the rock and totally ignores it, i.e. stays straight across the top despite the bump. The top of the door should be a downwards V or you should account for the bump in some other way.

The character seems rather large in comparison to the rest of the piece. I agree with B.O.B., in that it would be nice to see a little more detail on that rock face. Fix that and you'll make a good piece even better.

I like the great simplicity of it. The ground and vegetation works out well enough, but the building is screaming "I'm unfinished!"...I understand that simplicity is what you are shootin' for here, but the building lacks detail. I think you still need some time fixing it up, maybe with a couple of extra brighter shades, to show some shine, and a little more darker colors to present the illusion of cracks. Also, the Blue flowers( or dots?) in the grass look very out of place when compared the surrounding, pale, pea, green color of the grass. Other than that, I think its great..
