Thank you! I really am more comfortable with line art. I love to sketch so I'm sure that's why it comes through in my pieces. Pretty much of my submissions have actually been done by mobile devices in Pixly with a little finishing in Gimp(I'm poor. ).
I know that pixel art is closer to painting so form is very important. But I just tend to see form in outline at the beginning of a piece as opposed to color shapes. I'm working on it and trying to get away from outline, but I don't think I'll ever completely give it up. Its all a work in progress and developing personal style (the dithering for example)... And not losing the love of art! I know contests kind of lend themselves to promoting yourself as an artist, but the best pieces I've ever done were done for me and I wasn't worried how anyone else felt about it because I loved it myself.
I really dig your lighting and your attempts at dithering, it's too bad it's such a big piece or it might have been more manageable for you to complete to your satisfaction in the available time. It seems like you really dig the oekaki style; I hate doing linework with the pencil tool like I see some people do (very successfully I might add) so what I started doing was to draw linework at a high resolution with my tablet or a mouse at a large brush size, then scale it way down and pencil over that.
Thanks! I remember hearing horror stories about the things the little Asian guy in the suit would go through like heat exhaustion. It's also disconcerting to realize that, in reality, Godzilla isn't much taller than I am.
But thank you! There were so many refinements and things that I had to forego. I never seem to follow my own advice preparing COMPLETELY before starting project... It's also difficult when you are rushing to finish and you keep seeing these little details that you want (or need) to polish up, but know there's only so much you can do about it atm.
As far as the dithering goes it was something I saw someone do and loved. Now I'm just trying to get it right and make it my own. I also have to admit that, in this case, it serves as a nice distraction from those nasty little glaring detail problems. It's just something to keep working on.
Anything old godzirra related always reminds me of a disclaimer that was shown with the movie. "Real people were injured to make these films".
Good job on this though! Your dithering on it's skin is real nice.
Hahaha! I guess I was tired of seeing the chunk-zilla. Just trying preserve the suspension of disbelief and divert your eyes away from the zipper.
Thank you so much!
