It sort of works stylisitically as it is, but I think the head could use more definition. Perhaps use dark colour more liberally. Not sure. Also, I think another bright colour and - possibly - a little dithering could help on the skin. I don't like the colour of the shirt, and I don't think it's good to decrease the saturation on red for highlights. The legs need more definition: as it is, they're not like two sticks, they're like two squares. Do a vertical line type highlight going all the way up and down each leg. And finally, I don't understand his nose.
Just thought of this: Instead of using another light colour, you could try lightening the one you have and AA'ing it in.
