Good progress! You've trimmed your new picture down to unique 7 colours! The colours in your previous picture were OK, there were just too many shades. Be confident and experiment 
To be honest, I think your previous character was much more interesting, though. Why not try re-drawing him in a 'pixel art' way? Maybe start by choosing 3 colours that work together, then make 3 shades of each (9 in total) and drawing with those?
Ok, i will try with my previous character.
I still have his lineart, and with grayscales, (It's the current way I draw, lineart->grey color->shadows and ligths-> base color-> and change the colors)
