I don't think it looks like plastic because of the animation. Isn't it because of the many long, straigth edge clusters of the forearm? Like it gives the impression that it's a hexagonal shape in 3D...
You're right about the hand needing more frames. At the moment her arm and hand are all one solid block and that's causing the unnatural look. Not sure if I'll come back to this piece any time soon but it's a valuable lesson for next time.
I like the hat bounce when she salutes. It makes it look like she's clicking her heels together to ensure straight posture. My suggestion for the arm animation would be to have a frame or two of the hand and wrist settling into position and one frame of the arm settling down into position. Love the reflecting glasses. She kinda looks like Janeane Garofalo :)
Thank you very much! I noticed you recently finished that epic picture from the forums. What an incredible image! I can't imagine how much time you must have spent on it. Just those clouds alone must have taken hours and hours ...
Thanks! Although I think I only got away with it because the frame is so short your eye doesn't get a chance to notice how lazy the lines are. Originally I wanted to make it a much more realistic a slow movement.
Thank you, mordfikosz. I do feel the arm looks very plastic looking, though. And ideas on what I did wrong?
Nothing wrong with the animation IMO. It's expressive, efficient and fitting.
Thank you, Madrill! I felt my clusters were weak so I decided to avoid dithering and focus on them for this one. I think the hand/arm looks very plastic, though, and jaggies are a bit yuck. Baby steps ...
Wowza, clusters are ace here. The way you animated the gesture reminds me a bit of the metal slug POW
You're right! I tried dithering but it just added noise. I tried adding another one of the darker shades to her arm to get more variation but it make it a bit too dark. I'm a bit stuck. Do you have any suggestions?
