Thanks, the edit looks much better.
I only posted it here because i thought it was finished and the contrast was ok, but its always great to get some feedback, cuz most of the time im wrong (as you can see hehe)
The biggest problem here is the rocks behind the character are really high-detail and high-contrast, making it really difficult to make out the character and the playable surfaces. Turning the contrast down on those would really help with the readability of the scene.
There were entire sections of the gameplay area that I didn't even notice until I started to make an edit for you. Here's that edit. I greatly reduced the contrast in the background, and slightly increased the contrast in the foreground (darkened the two darkest colours, that's all). The important (gameplay) areas are a lot more visible now!
It's certainly possible to increase the legibility without making the background this dull, but it depends on what sort of look you want, and might require some redrawing to reduce detail/noise.
Another problem is you have a lot of single-pixel noise, so this piece looks unfinished and could use some clean-up.
If you're still working on this, I recommend posting on the forums and not submitting to the gallery yet. The gallery is for finished works.
If you're still willing and hoping to make adjustments to a piece, it's probably a good idea to give it a go on the forum rather than considering it done. Almost any big piece can be worked on forever, "finished" is when you've given up on it ;D
