In the demo, it looked a bit weird that the characters on the ground were walking right on the edge where the ground turns to shadow. I'd move that edge down a few pixels so that the characters can look like they're walking on the ground, or do the entire thing in side-view, with no visible floor.
The scaffolds in the left part of the area blend into the background. Perhaps it would help to highlight the tops of them, or to make the background lighter so that the dark silhouette stands out against it? That might also help the other midground buildings stand out better.
Other than that, I think this is a great-looking environment. I hope someone'll make a full game with these assets!
