This is an edited capture of my current game prototype.

In terms of gameplay, think about Broforce having a child with Dark Souls, after a drunk night by Mario (...).

So I wanted it to be oppressing, but without being graphically dark. The Good The Bad And The Ugly movie was a formidable basis to work with, but in the logic of a game, it was hard for me to bring a necessary visual diversity in a very desertic environment.
I then evolved towards Mad Max'ish palettes, with the result you see, including a steampunk touch which logically enables me to have flying enemies (and rocket launchers).

I "began" pixel art only a few months ago, and this website has been a major teacher for me. I know the sky is supposed to be less saturated than the front scene, but everything terribly lacks of personnalty as soon as I try to soften it.
In such an environment my biggest issue is actually to make items and bonuses obvious for the eye, but, eh, it's a prototype, we have time!

Also, I'm sorry for the amount of colors used in this compo, I tried to reedit, I hope it's not a dealbreaker.

Thank you everybody.

I agree that there is a lack of coherence in the global picture: during development, game design leads the rest. Once I have coded inflammable environment, I need to draw something which can burn, there you got your tree... Implementation of different material colliders on certain enemies? Here comes a jetpack... On top of that, my drawing technique is not the same today as 3 months ago.

But be sure that when everything is set, I will come back to the composition, consider it as one piece and make it as homogeneous as possible.

Color count doesn't matter as long as nobody notices it ;)
Looks great, though honestly the premise of the game is vastly more interesting. Can't wait to see it in Greenlight?

this genius level work right here, truly amazing
even though the building in the background is a lacking in polish (probably still under construction) at least compared to the epic tree next to it
the amount of time it must have taken to create the assest
is unfathomable

I would pay big money if this game ever got released for the art alone
